Design Lead
To better support sellers in building and managing their online presence, I led the design of foundational improvements to Square’s Online applet in POS. Our goal was to make online tools visible, accessible, and actionable directly within sellers’ everyday workflows — no longer hidden as optional add-ons. We streamlined key tasks like item visibility, fulfillment settings, and delivery setup, and surfaced these touchpoints across core POS modes. This approach met sellers where they already were, allowing them to launch and manage their online stores with just a few taps, from any device.
We focused heavily on reducing friction during onboarding and setup. By leveraging existing data, we minimized setup time and customized the experience based on seller defaults — giving sellers full control while saving them time. These changes nearly doubled engagement with online tools (from 20% to 39%) and increased online signups by 75% within the first week. The work not only empowered sellers to seamlessly transition to multichannel commerce, but also laid the groundwork for new offerings like Order Online and Cash Local.
